Earlier in the evening at Starbucks, there was a small group of us thrust into conversation with each other because we were prevented by weather from accessing the internet. So we entered a spirited discussion about Scotland and what independence might mean for that country, England, Europe and the United States.

So it's not just the people in the UK who are losing sleep tonight (even though it is them who are directly affected) but the entire world who are watching and holding their breath.
