Historic Day
This Celtic Wheel Cross is part of a memorial in Itchingfield churchyard. I had the idea of taking this given the news of today and the No vote for Scottish Independence.
At least the BBC will now latch onto something else after months of airtime speculating on the result! For me personally, one of the great drawbacks of living in SE England and being very anti-Conservative is that there are many of us whose views are not heard and you can't do anything to change things for the better. It's always hard for those who voted in one particular direction and whose voices have not been heard.
Ignoring religion, this style of cross has it's origins in each of the three Celtic lands of the British Isles. As it is such a distinctive and recognisable style of cross, it has been reproduced in every corner of these islands - whether decoratively, as a War Memorial, or a memorial to a loved one for example. I felt that this also symbolises both the individuality and culture of each of the Celtic Nations as well as the physical, cultural and human ties between us all.
