Chichester Canal Basin

The Chichester Canal refers technically to the short length of canal that joined the old Portsmouth to Arundel Canal. This began at Ford on the River Arun and ended at Birdham on the Chichester Channel and boats continued on through the harbour to a short length of canal on Portsea Island where Portsmouth is situated. Only the length from Chichester to Birdham is in water and trips can be had on it from the Basin. It is surrounded by flats on two sides, Stockbridge Road and Basin Road on the others. It is a peaceful area given the proximity of the main road south out of the city cenre and the busy station. There is also a cafe and small shop adjoining and outside seating.
