Gateway to the Lakes

Today's the day ........................ to advertise

This is a strange new metallic poster that has gone up in Wainwright's Yard in the middle of Kendal.

It's actually a reproduction of a 1910 London and North Western Railway poster - now held at the National Railway Museum in York. The huntsman, dressed in Kendal Green cloth is pointing out some of the attractions of the town (often featured in blips!) including the River Kent with its excellent fishing and surrounded by the beautiful scenery.

At one time, it must have been looked on as a great way to publicise the Gateway to the English Lakes and get people to purchase the Cheap excursion tickets, short and long-date week-end Tickets also Tourist Tickets issued from all the principal stations to Kendal.

Not sure it's going to do the same nowadays .............................
