All tired
This morning we all slept in. I had to look twice at the clock and was in disbelief both times that it was 8am and they were all just waking. A whole family sleep in is rare, very rare but I think we all needed that bit of extra sleep.
It's coming to the last week of school and the boys are tired and a little scratchy, their ability to manage their emotions is lessening. I'm trying to be patient, knowing they themselves don't quite understand why they're behaving that way.
I decided to be a little spontaneous this morning and we all went out for breakfast, something that we as a whole family haven't done. (It may or may not have anything to do with me not getting all my groceries done last night and not having bread or cereal this morning!)
We went into town and had pancakes, with coffee for andre and I, fluffies- including Harpers very first fluffy- for the boys.
We popped in to see my mother in law who went to get a gift for us to take to the boys cousin who turned 1 today. We drove out to see him and drop off the presents only we didn't stop long, Harper had fallen asleep and Kanye was nearly asleep too.
I jinxed myself in yesterday's blip about no more seizures- Kanye had a couple of big ones during the night hence why he was so tired today.
When we got home Kanye lay down and lined up his cars- he does this when he needs time out/time alone to rest and disengage from everything around him. It's calming and restful for him. I always make sure that the other 2 leave him alone - Kanye needs space too. Marley was tired and lay on the couch playing with his lego and Harper sat looking at his books.
I could see this quiet time would have been a great time to get down on the floor and spend time with them individually but I decided to leave them be. They would come to me when they needed and self directed play is a good skill for them to develop. Not needing an adult or another child to assist them in play.
I put some quiet relaxing music on and opened the windows so it wasn't too hot. I cleaned out my kitchen drawers- something that's been on my to do list that never gets done.
Late this afternoon, they all picked up and went outside to play- in the dirt. Marley is making great leaps in his bond with Harper, I see him gravitate towards him as a playmate now which is so great to see as in doing as he's learning empathy and to be caring. He realizes Harper is only little so can't do everything mar does.
Today harper wanted to step outside. Having not quite figured it out yet, I decided to put my trust in mar- i didn't rush to grab harper from impending concrete step injury- i very casually asked Marley to hold Harpers hand so he could step out, I explained to him that Harper couldn't do it by himself yet. Mar reached out and held his hand and helped him get down the steps safely over and over. I was very proud of mar.
After a late dinner of lasagne, we got the boys ready for bed. Mar threw quite a big tantrum exclaiming he wasn't tired, once in bed he fell asleep quite quickly so just as i suspected -exhausted .
He wasn't the only one- Harper woke with a startle not long after being asleep. He appeared frightened and was almost looking through me, crying his baby eyes out. He reached for andre who calmed him, once calm he came back to me but being overtired he found it hard to go back to sleep so i held him and rocked him until he drifted off.
I think tomorrow will need to be another quiet day.
