Doris the Bird Lady
This blip is dedicated to Liz.
Today was the BEST day. I was pulled from my class before I had to teach math (yea!) because they needed someone to take pictures at the assembly. I didn't know what the assembly was for until I walked into the gym to find a lady with 4 birds of prey. What a great day to have my camera in my car! I got over 700 shots. It was so much fun!
This is a small Screech Owl by the name of Texas. Doris lives in North Carolina, works for an organization in Florida, travels all over the U.S. with the birds in her van, and got this specific bird in Texas. She is missing a large portion of one of her wings. She was so tiny compared to the Horned Owl with her. I love that you can see how soft she is in this picture.

For those that follow my woes as a teacher...
Even better than getting to take pictures all morning, my kids were pretty good today! I rearranged the desks from the way the previous teacher had them, and that seems to be working. Also, I switched our schedule so that I taught Math in the morning and Reading in the afternoon. They are normally so nuts by then, that they do not take anything in, but today they actually calmed down for Reading! A miracle has occurred!
I REALLY hope it is not a fluke, and it will last. It is sad that I have been in this position for 6 weeks and this is the first good day I have had. Either way, I am thanking God for this day, because I can go on slightly renewed.
It has not escaped my attention that my best day involved spending half of the day taking photos and not with my class.
