Scoop Plane Used On Scoggin's Creek Fire
I had a wonderful lunch with a friend today...did a bit of genealogy sleuthing over Thai noodles...gosh it was good, and fun! Tonight the whole family went out to dinner for sushi...Kelli's belated birthday dinner! The only downside was that we were missing Bob who is up on the boat for a "men's cruise"! Hope the weather holds for them.
After lunch I got the crazy idea to drive up towards the fire outside of Forest Grove. I was able to get all the way to the entrance of Hagg Lake, but that was it. the actual fire is another 2 miles NW of the lake.
I did get to see the scoop plane being used on the fire and two heavy helicopters, one which scooped with a bucket and the other pulled water up through a tube. The helicopters can pick up about 1000 gallons per scoop and have been successful in saving every home and other structures. So far 300 acres have burned and it is 20% contained, and they are quite optimistic about containing the fire by the 24th of September.
I was able to enjoy the Hillsboro Air Show both coming and going to the fire...loved the biplane and the jets...photos on my flickr page...
