A French Classic

We've not done very much today, as I've not been feeling great - I seemed to be fighting a bug last week, and sure enough it took hold last night! So we got up early and nipped to the pharmacy and then went to the supermarket to stock up the fridge. On our way back we saw this old classic Citroen van coming down the main street in the middle of Riquewihr, and with all the old timber buildings it blends in perfectly.

We also saw a tourist train in the middle of the vineyards so after lunch we decided to do a tour on it as I didn't feel up to walking too far - we took the boys with us and they seemed to really enjoy it! When we got back we went for a walk around the town and found a brasserie that makes and sells beer, so we sat in the sun and had a small glass which was very nice. It's unusual as the Alsace is known for it's wine, not beer.

Anyway, my meds are starting to kick in and tonight we're going for a meal at Au Trotthus where we went on Christmas Day the year before last. I've kept in touch with Philippe the owner and chef since then, so it will be nice to see him again.

Thanks for putting yesterday's Champagne Harvest on the spotlight, it's equally busy here with the grape harvest - there's a great buzz about the place with tractors coming and going full of buckets of grapes. We've already had a few tastings and we're going to have a cellar tour while we're here.
