Walk for Manorlands.
Today was the 'Walk for Manorlands' a Sue Ryder home just over the hill from here. It is an annual event to raise funds for this hospice in memory of Ruth Jagger.
The main organiser is her dad (a great walker and the founder of the Harden Hard'un) and it has been a very successful fund raiser since it's inception.
You can do 5, 10 or 16 miles. We stuck with the five miler as we are going out later. Many of the 'ladies that walk' were going for the 10 miles which included several pub stops! Soon after this, as we left the moors they disappeared. One of our small group has had a recent op. and she was struggling a bit but we were very happy going at a steady pace and enjoying the company and views.
Here you can see the hamlet of Ryecroft which we had just passed through up onto Harden Moor. This is just above our village, we continued down through the woods into the St Ives Estate and back past the golf course to the village cricket pavilion where we had a welcome cup of tea and great cakes!
Wonderful to see so many villagers participating, might go for the 10 mile next year ( said that last year!)
Off to pick some Damsons now and we will be rewarded by more good company and supper!
