Round and Round and Round My Head

When Si was in the Navy, he sailed during the Gulf War.

That wouldn't be the Gulf War which started in 2001, nor the Gulf War which started in 1990, but the Iran/Iraq War. That would be the war, where the UK Naval Ships patrolled the Persian Gulf protecting the ships travelling there.

Because of the heightened state of tension... the crew worked eight on, eight off, and it was crucial that when they hit bed, they slept. There was a routine to this, and in 2SS Mess the music of Sade was the key.

The eight on shift, would leave and head to the galley, and the eight, heading to bed, would darken the room and put on "Smooth Operator".

Typically they were all asleep before the end of "your love is king"...

I sensed trouble today as we drove down the road from Glasgow... the opening bars of Smooth Operator started... and he yawned.

My singing loudly over the top of it kept him awake.

However, within five minutes of getting in the house, he is unconscious on the sofa.
