The Kymin

An excellent day walking today with great friends Anne and Richard!

We climbed the Kymin in Monmouth, which whilst it might not be Penyfan or Snowdon high is a good little pull that gets the heart pumping, and at the top there are some glorious views across Monmouth. At the top of the Kymin is the Round House, built in 1794 which is now owned by the National Trust, and also the Naval Temple which is today’s blip. The Naval Temple was built to honour a number of Admirals and the battles that they took part in, clearly Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson was celebrated and has a great deal of connections with Wales in Monmouth and Tenby. More information can be found here on the Kymin.

From there it was downhill and a spot of lunch in the idyllic setting of the Boat Inn, Penallt. They doing an amazing chicken curry there, and with a glass of cider and having burnt off a lot of calories on the climb to the Kymin, they hit the spot perfectly.

The walk back to Monmouth then took in an old disused railway line, a walk alongside the river and then a quick stop at the sports ground to see the Sealed Knot brigade carry out a re-enactment of some long ago battle.

All in all a perfect day! Back to work tomorrow and THE decision.
