The plot thickens

Turns out the reason these two arrived without any possessions is that they are part of a custody battle and were stolen away from their home by the partner who is leaving. Today there have been endless emails full of accusations and threats. It's so difficult to unravel all the drama and determine what is in the best interest of these clearly neglected dogs (obese, not exercised, no vaccines etc. since 2011). The dogs were surrendered by their legal owner and it seems the easiest way to resolve this is to have the other partner apply to adopt them and then go through the usual procedures to see if the adoption criteria are met. What do you think?
I took them for their injections, check-up, and worm mooty earlier today. They are settling down nicely.
