Gifts From Abroad

Gift is one of those "false friends" in German. Just because so many words are the same in English as they are in German, it's not safe to assume that they all are.

"Gift" in English is a present.

In German "das Gift" is poison.

Looking at the ingredient list for these and you might be correct in saying that this fills both categories :-)

However, it's not as if I'm eating them every day, so I reckon once in a blue moon I'm allowed a surge of artificial flavourings.

Although the crisps claim to include "free range chicken from Devon".

Our friends went home today.

M decided to go by train to the airport and seems to have had no hassle in getting there. This is very pleasing.

We whiled away a rather relaxing couple of hours with C & S before they headed for the airport.

It's been great to have friends here again. Really great.
