Wisteria

This Wisteria has some sentimental value for me. It was the first (and only) plant I have ever grafted. I did an RHS Horticulture course at Myerscough Agricultural College in Lancashire about 10 years ago. The course was an interesting mixture of practical and theoretical horticulture and I learned a lot from the lecturers and from the other mature students in my group. One of the topics covered was how to graft a plant onto a more vigorous rootstock. I can't remember what we used but it may have been apple. So I brought home my successful classwork project and put it into this barrel at the front of the house with vine eyes and wires attached to the wall to support it. It gets pruned twice a year and fed when I remember to feed it. The bottom of the trunk is now quite substantial and I'm assuming that the roots have by now pushed through the bottom of the barrel. If I move it, I will probably lose it but it can't stay in the barrel for much longer.
