The Big Zip Sip

A good look at my very own special fellow, Zippy. He's a beautiful Costa's hummingbird. While all the other tiny birds migrated during the middle of October last year, the Zipper stayed with me all through the winter.

When the mornings were especially cold, I would put out nectar that was a little warmer for him - at least room temperature. Sometimes I would see him puff up to twice his size in an effort to keep himself warm. But the little bugger, no more than three inches long, never wavered, and has been here since I put up this feeder a year ago.

Yesterday's sneak attack! I posted it today. "A day late and a dollar short," as my mom would say.
