Spaghetti Eis

This is a picture I took in Germany. I’m eating a dessert called “Spaghettieis” or in English, spaghetti ice cream. Spaghetti ice cream is a very popular treat throughout Germany. They take ice cream and put it through a meat grinder to get the spaghetti shape. Next they add strawberry sauce to look like tomato sauce. Then they add some sort of fruit. Finally the dessert is sprinkled in crushed white chocolate which imitates parmesan cheese. Spaghettieis is made in several flavors and shapes. You can also order “Lasagnaeis”, which is ice cream that looks like lasagna. I had this dish twice while in Germany. The first time I had it was the time portrayed in the picture. This was in a city called Rothenberg. Rothenberg is one of Germany’s oldest cities and wasn’t penetrated until the 30 Years War. The second time I encountered “Spaghettieis” was in the city I lived in for two and a half weeks, Bremerhaven. While in Bremerhaven I tried a different type of “Spaghettieis.” This particular version had sliced bananas on it instead of berries and was drizzled in chocolate syrup, not strawberry sauce. Both tasted amazing! If you ever get to Germany, I highly recommend you try “Spaghettieis!”
