A day in Valetta

The next day we set off on the ferry from Slima across the bay to Valetta to explore the ancient capital. The streets are narrow and steep, the limestone buildings have these unusual bay windows reputedly for ladies to watch the comings and goings of the street with out being seen.
This street reminded me of the many hours we would spend driving through this small island. Driving is a challenge here - streets are narrow, bumpy, there are no road signs, no maps and the drivers are the worst in Europe. Phil made an excellent job of driving and Gill - ex geography teacher, was an amazing navigator using her phone. If it was not for their team work I think we would still be in Malta trying to find our way out.
