Tonic Sol Fa

I remember not a lot from Primary One, but I do remember the long chart that hung on the wall spelling out the Tonic Sol Fa scale.

There are lots of theories as to how long Sol Fa has been around. But the biggest part in the invention seems to have been down to one Sarah Ann Glover who lived in Norwich and died in 1867.

The system is that every tone is given a name according to its relationship with other tones in the key. Doh moves around to set the pitch, then everything else agrees.

And in case you forgot...

Doe, a deer, a female deer
Ray, a drop of golden sun
Me, a name I call myself
Far, a long, long way to run
Sew, a needle pulling thread
La, a note to follow Sew
Tea, a drink with jam and bread
That will bring us back to Do (oh-oh-oh)

(Kudos for anyone who can identify the tune above.....)
