Johannesburg (Day 2)
Today was a rest day to recover from the travel and acclimatise to the heat. The morning was ours to unpack, sit in the sunshine, read, crochet (yes, I might get that baby blanket finished this year!) and relax. I took some beautiful photos of flowers in the garden but holiday blips aren't about the best photo, they're about the experience. That said, I apologise for the experience you're currently having looking at my pasty white legs!
We headed to the Country Club for lunch. When G & his parents went for a game or two of squash, I decided to take a walk of the grounds and take some photographs. Sadly the cute little kittie that was at the bowling green had gone by the time I got back. I'd arranged to meet them at the pool so sat and dangled my legs in the water for a while. It was delightfully warm to someone who swims in Scottish reservoirs. Not being put off by the bits blown in off nearby trees, I asked a member of staff if it was okay to swim. There was a lot of shouting in a language I didn't understand and then a very confused "yes, if you really want to". I think the Africans thought I was crazy as there were several small clusters of people watching me at one point. I did 20 lengths and really enjoyed it, topped it off with a steam and then lounged in the sun until they'd finished the squash.
Early night as 4am start for flight to Cape Town tomorrow.
In other news: Today Scotland voted on our future (we did ours by post a few weeks back). Whatever tomorrow brings, I think I'm quite glad to be away from it all.
