Flaming

We took Rich's mum birding today to see the birds of prey migrating. She was hoping for a flock. I tried to set her expectations given we've never been here at this time of year before and weren't really sure how it all worked.

With the wind starting to lessen and change direction, the birds will be able to start their journey across to Africa so we were hopeful of at least some action.

We are only starting to be able to recognise the big raptors but, definite sightings were griffon vultures (blipped I think!) in their hundreds hanging by the coast in what seemed like a giant vortex of thermals, tens of both booted eagles and short toed eagles and, as we set off back, a flock of about a hundred black and white storks took off over the car.

It was incredible and Marjorie definitely got her flock!

Rich then went to the beach with the crowd and I sat by the pool with Rich's mum before having a little photo session.

In the evening, it was the big party meal to see in Rich's birthday as half the crew are on flights home tomorrow night. It was a really buzzing evening eating on the veranda of the restaurant. Excellent food, great company, a truly lovely speech by Kirsty's dad and a giant flaming cheesecake birthday cake to finish off.
