I get New York

Three weeks ago I had the privileged to fly up the Hudson River and see Manhattan from the air, wondering if I would enjoy New York from ground level. Well I managed to over come my reservations and took a day trip to the Big Apple. Apart from a rather lame Greyhound bus ride (not the fault of the bus operator) which took three hours longer than it should, I had a great day and found out why people make such a fuss about New York.

So what is it that gets people - for me it was the awesome architecture (I am sure that most of the skyscrapers lean just a little bit), the bustle, the cleanliness (for such a busy place). But what I find amazing is the curtesy and friendliness of the people and that is what really makes the place for me. There wasn't the jostling and frustrations of other cities. Maybe I was lucky to be there on a "quiet" Saturday out of the main season when the weather wasn't too good.

Would I go back? For sure. Could I live there? I think I like my open spaces and wide skies too much.
