Ready for the race
I had to set a realistic target for today.
I really haven't done as much training as j would like.
But I've got enough to get round and knowing this I will simply enjoy the race for its beauty.
I did some public address work with Simon and Helen, pictured with me, before going off on my 26.2 mile journey.
The idea was that I would take around 4 hours to do the 7 mile run, 15 mile cycle, then 4 mile run.
The company from fellow athletes was great.
I ran better than I expected for the first part.
I then cycled much faster and easier than I could have imagined over the toughest part of the course.
There is a section at a place called Janus Chairs where I deliberately slowed down because the view is breathtaking.
With the cycle over the transition back to running was hard. But I had realised by now I am tougher both physically and mentally than I thought.
The end result was a time of 3 hours, 15 minutes and 30 seconds. 45 minutes ahead of schedule.
And a load of cash raised at www.justgiving.com/brian-porter4 for Teenage Cancer Trust too.
