BEYOND the WINDSHIELD

While heading to City Market,
I spotted this retired army truck out the corner of my eye.
First chance, I U-turned my Honda.
Grabbed my PP {Purple Purse camera), and
Began working the subject.

The owner decided to talk to me,
While I was on my knees in the mud,
Working an underneath-the-vehicle angle.

I pulled myself out of this uncomfortable position, and
Listened as he shared the excitement about his new toy,

He’d been trying to buy this Bad Boy for 5 years.
A 1954, US Military M135-Series 2 1/2-ton, 6x6 cargo truck,
(I think)
Less than 24 hours ago, the price came down

By next summer this old soldier will be painted,
Hunter orange and be rolling down parade routes in Grand County.

This wasn’t the photo I originally planned,
I wanted to show off this truck’s unique bumper with holes to reduce weight.
Or a wide angle of his grill work, or
Those headlights that aid the soldiers night-vision goggles.

This was the last image before I headed back to my car.
More symbolic. The old soldier looking ahead,
His landscape widening beyond his small windshield.
It’s an image of hope and forward thinking.
Well, to me anyway.

On this, my 3rd anniversary, I hope to look wide as I move ahead.
