Spectacular!

I’m home from my sortie down south and straight back into the whirlwind surrounding World Mental Health Day on Friday.

The festivities kicked off last night with a film night at FACT. We showed 4 short films made by mental health service users and people with personal experience of mental distress followed by a screening of Silver Linings Playbook. It was really well attended and well received. Phew!

This morning I was up at the crack of dawn for an appearance on Tony Snell’s Breakfast Show on BBC Radio Merseyside alongside our World Mental Health Day Ambassador (and last year’s Lord Mayor), Councillor Gary Millar. It all went by in a flash but feedback has been positive so far…

This afternoon it was over to the World Museum for the setting up of the ‘Art and Recovery’ exhibition which will be showing for the next 4 days. It’s a really strong collection of pieces by local artists who’ve been, or are currently, mental health service users – including Jay (pictured above) and Sarah who I blipped a couple of weeks ago. We’ve got paintings, sculpture, photography, mixed media installations and all sorts!

On Friday we’ll be down in Williamson Square all day with music, dance, street art, comedy and information stalls – and there’s loads more going on during the day and evening.

So... if you’re anywhere near Liverpool on Friday why not come along to Williamson Square or one of the exhibitions or events taking place at Central Library, the World Museum, the Playhouse or the Museum of Liverpool? Or there’s always the Masked Ball at The Brink on Friday night...

You can see our full programme here!

We’ve worked hard on this over the last 8 months. It’s all looking great and it’s all free!
