Glass
Jaxon our 1o year old grandson bought this for me from Whale World, he was fascinated how someone could etch a ship inside the glass cube ....
The glass cube has the etching of a whale chaser, the ship was named W. Fearnhead and was built in Norway in the port of Oslo in 1948 for Cheynes Beach Whaling co. Albany W.A where it was re-named "CHEYNES IV"
The ship was lost in Frenchmen Bay Albany and towed to its present position at Whale World Museum. (on the site of the old whaling station)
Whaling in Western Australia was one of the first viable industries established in the Swan River Colony following the arrival of British settlers in 1829. The industry had numerous ups and downs until the last whaling station closed in Albany in 1978.
The museum itself is a very interesting place we have been here many times, it's a sad reminder of days passed, I for one are more than glad this industry met its demise.
But like Jaxon, it intrigues me how anyone can etch inside glass..
