Morning Wine, Whales and Penguins! (Day 5)
Pick just one photo. It's not as easy as it sounds. How do you pick just one in such a fantastic day?
We escaped the city today (to avoid the marathon) and headed for Stellenbosch and the vineyards. We called in to the Warwick Estate. 25Rand for their wine tasting (less than £2). We sat in the sunshine in a beautiful courtyard. Our sommelier brought each wine out to us at the table, told us about it and then left us to enjoy it for a while. We tried 3 whites and 4 reds. I then managed to get a taste of a beautiful rose too. It was one of their more expensive wines (I laughed) at 95Rand (just under £6). Well I had to have a bottle!
We then went out along the coast where we were lucky enough to see Whales (real ones this time) and even a mother with her calf. Our destination was Betty's Bay & Stoney Point where for 10Rand (about 60p) we could walk through a penguin colony! I loved it, they were so close and so cute. There were adults and young in various stages of fluffy scruffiness as they got their adult feathers. There were even a couple of Dassies too!
We stopped at Gordon's Bay for a late lunch and I took a paddle in the Pacific Ocean on the way back to the car. We then headed to Camps Bay where we sat on a cliff top and watched the beautiful sunset.
