Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens (Day 6)

Our last day in Cape Town so we packed up early, checked out and headed down to the Waterfront. We took a Red Bus City Sightseeing tour around Cape Town and district. After that we had a few hours before we needed to check in at the Airport so we headed to the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. They were huge. If you'd had the whole day there were trails right up through planted forests to the mountain.

As well as all the lovely plants (of which I photographed many), we took a stroll through a treetop canopy walk (on a well built but very swaying bridge) then strolled through the woodland below. We tracked a sunbird and its mate to their nest in a cactus in the rockery. Obviously I had the wrong lens on so I switched out and we sat and waited. The waiting paid off and I snapped this one fleeting shot of the male on a tree.

We also watched Guineafowl chase each other around, sat next to two geese who joined us in the shade, we saw a terrapin in a pond and encountered a flock of 13 little goslings. As we left the gardens and headed for the airport we saw a flock of about 16 Flamingos fly past!

We got through security fine (they thankfully didn't flag up liquids). Once again we had the luxury of a lounge so when the flight was delayed an hour there were worse places to be sat, glass of wine in hand.
