Why Did The Heron Cross The Road

I was in the centre of the small town of Maleny today and there near the town's one-and-only roundabout was this White-Faced Heron. Oh no! I thought - it's going to walk straight out into the traffic!

I didn't need to worry. It stood on the kerb and - I kid you not - looked left, right and left again, and crossed safely.

And to answer 'why' - there's a river on the other side with free heron food.
