Making Silage
The first cut of silage was made today by a massive tractor with three mowers attached; one in the front and two at the back. The back ones lift up like wings when the tractor has to negotiate gateways and tight corners. It was fascinating to watch and the whole farm was mown in a very short space of time. All this machinery is computerised too...a far cry from the old days when it was all mown by the farmer on a small tractor.
This is my farmer husband lifting up the grass and giving it a good sniff.
There's nothing like the smell of freshly cut grass to make a farmer happy. .
Hopefully it will all be wrapped and stacked tomorrow ready for a possible drought or just for winter feed.
