ely cathedral
grey in cambriodge so we popped over to ely for the afternoon, where it proceeded to get out into a lovely day, so tho i'd like to have spent time in the fitz, it was probly better to have got into the car as we ended up having a very nice amble around ely and along the river. the cathedral is pretty wow, esp if you remember to look up (you should *always* look up, esp in church, else you miss things!). the stonework is breathtaking and the painted ceiling incredibly striking. i may not have any religion or faith, but i can appreciate a nice religious building (even if i do think always of william golding's 'the spire' when i go into places like this :-) ).
good job we'd had a nice day out, too, the train journey back was grim in the extreme, culminating in a 35-mile taxi ride as the train was a whopping 50 mins late and i missed the connection. home at 11.45pm instead of 10.35pm is not good. esp when it's snowing... eek!
couple of backblips from here, btw.
