The old observatory

A much improved day today in Edinburgh so I've moved away from the tourist clichéd photos.

Met up with Fiona this morning who I haven't seen for around 15 years, good to meet up again. We then continued to wander around Princes Street and returned by Rose Street before going up Calton hill. Lots of photos taken.

On the top of the hill the old observatory dome has been taken over by an art exhibition. the first part of the exhibition was an empty room with a video of a wind turbine turning within it.....what a load of p*p I thought. The dome itself was more interesting although still a little empty for me. A glass ladder with some straw inside, a stick with a finger carved at each end, a vase of water with light bulbs floating in it and a heap of resin on the floor with some round things in it. We can interpret it any way we like said the helpful art supervisor.

I have never understood this type of art so what I liked was the smoke, which did come from a machine, catching the rays of sunshine through the stain glass window and the detail of the brick on the inside of the dome.

We finished the day with a lovely meal in the Olive branch which was very tasty. Now with 1 day to go we are finally getting into out holiday.
