Permanent Secretary to Namibian President

I was searching on line today for some information on Namibia, and came across this photograph of Samuel /Goagoseb (/G indicates a forward click in the pronunciation).

Samuel is now the Permanent Secretary to Namibia's President, Hifikepunye Pohamba. When I first met Sam in 1993, he was an assistant to the Minister for Fisheries, Helmut Angula. We got on famously and so much so, that he chose to come to Scotland to get married to his Namibian bride Esther, and asked me to be his best man!!

Sam got married in Dunfermline Abbey, dressed in the kilt. (He chose the Douglas tartan, and loved the joke that he was the real Black Douglas.)

During Namibia's fight for independence Sam not only was a fighter with SWAPO, but also became a published war poet.

I last met Sam two years ago in Namibia. Hopefully we shall meet again.
