Bowl and shadow

Down overnight to Sydney for a meeting in the city with Mum.

In the buildings foyer, by sheer chance, was the 2014 Ranamok Glass Prize finalists. Regularly Bob and I would make a special trip to Sydney to see the prize finalists, shown in varying exhibition spaces, once in Government House. This is the 20th year of the prize, and speaking to one of the two founding members partner, who was at the exhibition, it is sadly the last. Just as an aside, our very own Keith Rowe and Kayo Yokoyama have both been finalists on a few occasions, and in 2013 they were finalists together.

Some may recall the Ranamok Glass Prize Exhibition that was held at the cultural centre Katoomba recently. This was particularly interesting in that it was a showing of the prize winners over the years, rather than the finalists of that particular year. A winners exhibition has only been show 5 times, so it was quite a coup for the Cultural Centre to nab it.

The good news is the Australian National Gallery has bought the 20 prize winning pieces. Congratulations to Andy Plummer and Maureen Cahill, both co-founders of the Ranamok Glass Art Prize for a fabulous twenty year effort putting Australian Glass Artists on the international stage.

This is from a piece by Shizue Sato called 'Slumping'.
