The Last Post

A very emotional trip to the WW1 battlefields and memorials in Belguim and France with the schoolchildren. A deeply moving experience, especially hearing the Last Post at The Menin Gate, Ypres. The Last Post has been played here every night since 1928, except for the occupation by the Germans in WW2, where the daily ceremony took place in Brookwood Military Cemetry in England.

The buglers are members of the local fire brigade. It was worth the hour wait, and getting a front seat standing view. The large Hall of Memory contains names on stone panels of 54,896 Commonwealth soldiers who died but were never identified or found.
