Star Spangled
After a day of workshop I met up with Siri and Patrick who've just arrived from Norway and Uganda respectively and took them on a short walk to the Lincoln Memorial and then to the Martin Luther King Jr memorial. In between we caught several of the various other memorials - Korea 1950-53 and WWII which was being revamped last time I was here and is stunning. Memorials are big in DC.
Poor Patrick was struggling with uncomfortable shoes and the time difference so left me and Siri to wander around the Washington Monument which has just reopened after damage caused 3 years ago by an earthquake and hurricane. I tried to capture the flags blowing in the wind, but it was tricky in the low light with just a point-and-shoot to hand. The obelisk is 500m+ tall and open for visitors to go up and see the tremulous views down to the National Mall to Capitol Hill.
We slogged it up 14th Street looking for a nice little bar and found ourselves in a Belgian themed restaurant where I was served blue cheese ice cream and green salad in a lidded jar from the kitchen of an ambitious chef keen to make his mark on the palates of DC.
Now my legs ache and although it's only 9pm here, that's 2am UK so I'm off to bed.
