Day 2 at Kanha...
We started the morning with a walk in the nature trail and seeing some birds. I managed to shoot this bird using my new camera's zoom and a tripod and was quite satisfied with the results. We did spot a wild boar who saw us and stopped. Thought what the best thing would be attack us or run away. It chose to runaway and scampered off at full speed into the bushes and disappeared before we blinked. It was funny and told us something about the nature of this animal. It was a shy animal and quite camera shy :)
The first entry into this beautiful forest was wonderful. The jungle was truly mysterious and lovely. We started spotting several animals here like the Barasingha, Sambhar deer, Spotted-deer and several birds.
Some animals like the sambhar deer were really shy and cautious. They stayed away from the jeeps, crossed the cautiously, constantly keeping an eye on our movements. We saw the hard-ground barasingha grazing in the meadows. This animal is only seen in Kanha National Park.
We also went for the evening safari which was equally nice. The morning was 4 hrs and the evening was 3 hrs and we had to be out before sunset. It was mandatory to take a designated jeep with a driver, and a guide from the forest department.
We did not spot a tiger on the first day but were not disappointed. We learned a lot about the animals and birds. It was interesting to hear from the locals, how one would only spot a tiger if they were lucky. The tiger apparently never changes its course when it sees the tourists. It is unfazed and bold and truly a king.
We went back and planned for the next days trip.
