The challenge for the NHS
This morning I had quite a long wait in the Nuclear Medicine Department at Barts Hospital in London, but I was quite comfortable in this chair. I was in one of the snazzy new buildings at the Barts site in West Smithfield and the waiting areas are newly fitted out. I suddenly felt a bit like one of the bears in the Goldilocks story as I realised how enormous all the chairs were. They are almost a metre across and built like tanks. Then I twigged - this is the new NHS recognising that an awful lot of its patients over the next 50 years are going to be grossly obese. It really brought home the reality of the news story of the last couple of days.
