Hawthorn Shieldbug
This shieldbug is about 16mm in length and is common in England and Wales but less so in Scotland.
As the name implies it's food of choice is Hawthorn berries and leaves. The bug has no biting or chewing mouth parts but has a long drinking straw type 'sucker tube' with which they probe for juices. This is normally carried tucked up close to the under body when not in use.
I saw this little one on a leaf stalk enjoying the wonderful sunshine we've had all day today.
I've had a busy day clearing guttering, washing fascias, windows and frames and then I cut all of the grass, it's amazing how much it had grown. Taking it easy now by enjoying a cup of tea and a Cadburys Flake!!
