Just a matter of time

I used to buy bulbs in bulk every year in hundreds of each of several variety, for customer planting schemes, and of course some for myself. I used to spend hours deciding which varieties to select from the vast choices in catalogues. Now that I am semi retired, it was just as cost effective to buy at the garden center. No postage and VAT to add on. Not so much choice of course, but that made it easier!

Bulbs, other than Tulips, are permanent amongst my perennial plants. Some varieties of tulips do OK in the ground for a few years, but most benefit by being treated as annuals and renewed each year. November is prime planting time for Tulips, so over the next few days I will empty my pots of summer annuals, (which are still looking OK since its so mild) and redo the pots with Tulips and some winter pansies.

I LOVE Tulips. So colourful for late April, early May before the perennials get going. I planted 3 bunches of pink wallflowers the other day too, so a colourful spring is just around the corner.
