Aysgarth Falls

Today's the day ........................ to go east

After all the excitement of last night, we were up with the lark (well it would have been were it not for the blessing of the extra hour!) - and heading off to Yorkshire.

We left the Lake District National Park and entered the Yorkshire Dales National Park - quite a different kettle of fish altogether. We entered the world of flat-topped limestone peaks, iconic drystone walls, barns and hay meadows. There were still quite a lot of yellow bikes about - remnants of the glorious Yorkshire stage of Le Tour back in the summer.

We went through Wensleydale - and picture-perfect places like Hawes and Leyburn. We had a walk to see this lovely waterfall at Aysgarth. It's been a beauty spot ever since the early 19th century when Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy visited. It's been painted by many artists including Turner.

We're spending a couple of nights near the village of Masham - home of the legendary Theakston Ale and then we'll be going even further east. It's going to be a bit of a geological pilgrimage - a bit of a return to the roots. I'm SO looking forward to it all ....................
