Fallen

A memorial on the bank of the Spree, just next to the German parliament. The first 6 crosses hold the names of people who were shot trying to cross the river into the West. The seventh is for all the unknowns that failed to make it over The Wall. Simple but effective.

This was an early stop, we've been touristing hard the rest of the day; monuments and churches, Checkpoint Charlie (depressingly crass I thought), backstreets and main streets, lots of U-bahns. And the odd beer. Stuck to the dark stuff today, I'm on Duckstein just now and very pleasant it is too.

Good old Vodafone, my fantastic new Europe zone tariff has left me with no Internet access even though it costs me £3 a day. They really are pants sometimes. So thanks to Jack for texting me the happy Ozturk news!
