Watch the birdie

Today we went up to Monte, on the hills above Funchal. We visited two magnificent gardens, in one of which I spotted this stunning strelitzia.

Busy day, lots of walking around, but very enjoyable. It did, however, include two of my daughters' least favourite things (sorry girls!): one isn't completely comfortable dangling over vertiginous drops in cable cars, and the other is convinced that any lizard she sees is planning to go for her (or worse, for her lunch!).
