Rua do Bispo, Funchal

I thought this was a good blip for our last full day in Funchal, as it shows a lot of things I've come to like about the city: the narrow, sometimes twisting, medieval streets; the roof tiles, other splashes of bright colour and constrasting stonework that stand out against the white walls; and the black-and-cream mosaic patterns that are being laid everywhere in the city centre. (There are some great patterns, and I'd wondered if they had some labour-saving way of laying these in panels or something - but they don't.)

And today, we've had a storm circling in the hills - a very ominous looking sky, but it hasn't come to rain (yet - touch wood!) , and I loved how splashes of bright sunlight would suddenly stand out around the city (like at the end of this street :) as the clouds parted.
