Lionfish
Thank you for the hearts, stars and messages on yesterday's Blip. Tom and I were absolutely thrilled to linger in the Spotlight. I'd love to reply to everyone, and I will try and catch up with Blips over the next couple of days, but I hope you'll forgive me for neglecting my 'Blip family' for one last day to concentrate on my real-life brood.
This lionfish has been lurking in the same spot; halfway up the jetty to the coral reef, for the whole week. It hangs in the sea, never moving more than a metre in any direction, just drifting below the surface; delighting and frightening paddlers and snorkelers alike. Beautiful but dangerous. I hoped to show how clear the sea is with this shot. I've never been anywhere before where the holiday sea is so perfect, warm and alive.
As a shockingly shite swimmer, diving was never going to be my thing, and I was sceptical about snorkeling (that whole face in the water thing? not me) but this holiday has changed my mind. Safely encased in a floaty jacket, and swimming with a mask, not a snorkel, I found something approaching calm. The peace underwater and the 'other-worldliness' of the reef was wonderful. My best thing.
I'll try to remember that feeling when I'm back in London (ah .. holiday resolutions, doesn't everyone have them?!). But I'll try and go for total absorption in the moment; concentrating on only one thing at a time. The school would probably call it Mindfulness. They do love a buzzword. But I think it's just 'do one thing at a time. And do it properly'.
