one of my guys, after returning home with us from san diego, went out for a ride on saturday afternoon, only to be victim to a sort-of 'swerve and run' incident. not sure if that's the name for it, but essentially, the driver hugged a corner too tight, forcing the rider far to the side of the road, where he managed to endo and hit the ground, face first.
one broken wrist, four fractures on his face, and several stitches later, he is in high spirits, but definitely pissed off. amazed were we that not only did the driver not stop to help (he could have clearly seen what happened), the other drivers directly behind him did not either.
all of this, nearly a half-mile from a sign that touts the town as a 'bike-friendly' city. this is not the first incident we have heard of locally, as a colleague's wife was victim of a recent actual 'hit and run' by a motorist recently, amongst many other similar stories in the same community.
'bike-friendly city' - geez - sounds about as ridiculous as some of our politicians proclaiming we have the 'best healthcare system in the world'.
