Kowhai the next stage

The tuis love the nectar in the kowhai flower and at this stage you can see the petals have fallen off leaving the little yellow cap and the long stamen is becoming the seed pod. The tui has a long flexible tongue that can go deep into the kowhai flowers. I have been looking at these long stamens in the morning light all week and today with a beautiful blue sky hope they show just how long they are.
A tui came along and sat on the tui tea jar but I missed him close up and a blackbird hopped round my feet.
Now off to mow the lawns.
