Tea for One
There are days made for cups of strong, comforting tea. And on those days you need a decent tea cosy. There's a Billy Connolly (I think) quote along the lines of "Never trusts a man who, left alone in a room with a tea cosy in it, doesn't try it on."
Today was definitely a tea day. Conor was up through the night with some unspecified fever. Pink medicine, cuddles and a night in mammy's bed seemed to sort him out and this morning he was right as rain: breakfast, then nursery. They called at 10ish to go and get him - but even then he didn't seem really ill, just a bit clingy. And so he stayed through the afternoon, sleepy, a bit hot, not hungry.
Then at 5.30pm the horrifying "Mammy my neck is sore". Cue cold shivers, scrabbling for the 'meningitis alert' card and a call to the doctors. Surgery is closed on Wednesday evening, but the doctor popped round on his way home with reassurance ("it's the wrong kind of neck stiffness"), sound advice and what to look out for to merit another call-out.
I am so grateful for having a good family GP. I don't care how much he earns: frankly to my family he's worth his weight in gold.
Time for more tea I think. Could be a long night ahead!
