The Hawthorn Hedge
Today, Sunday, was incredibly windy with a strong nor-west wind blowing a gale most of the day. We had yet another “Open Home” in the early afternoon which entailed Keith, the dogs and me making ourselves scarce for a while. We leave the three cats safely shut in a spare bedroom known as the “Kitten Room”. There is an internal window so folk can easily see into it without letting the cats escape. We worry that people may leave the gates open to the road.
Keith, the dogs and I drove out to Brooksdale in the Omaka Valley to visit our friends, the O’Connors, for afternoon tea. Whilst there we wandered around the farm and gardens to check out the flowering hawthorn hedges. The double pink variety was in a spot fairly sheltered from the wind. I was able to capture some images of these quite spectacular flowering trees. The double pink flowers closely resemble tiny roses when viewed at close range.
The hedge of red hawthorn (“Paul’s Scarlet”) was in a very windy area. I plan another trip to the farm next weekend in order to photograph the amazing blooms displayed on those hedged trees.
