Candy Sort

Let the candy sorting begin. After Trick-or-Treating last night, we hung out by the neighbor's fire. As a result, we did not hand out our store bought candy. Add to that the loot our kids came home with and we have a serious dental problem.

I had the kids dump their buckets out onto the floor to sort and count. (Might as well make a math game out of it, right?) Mia had 79 pieces, Evan had 63 (I think he ate a lot along the way) and Owen - who ran the neighborhood with the birthday party kids - had 170!

Then I said, "Let the trade-skis begin!" They loved this. It was just like the game Pit. After the trading, we let them have a few pieces. That's when Jim and I worked out our deal. We told the kids they could keep up to 30 pieces of candy and we would buy the rest for a quarter a piece. The catch being that they could only keep half of the money. The other half would go to a charity of their choice.

Owen jumped on this deal. He ended up only keeping 4 pieces of candy. Half of his money will be going to African Wildlife Foundation. He specifically wants to help protect rhinos and elephants from poachers. Evan kept 30 pieces. Half of his money will go to Doctors Without Borders to help with the Ebola epidemic.
