The River Dart

Another glorious day. The first of November. From our hut we cut across Yar Tor Down and around Sharp Tor to pick up Dr. Blackhall's Drive- now a part of the Two Moors Way- which leads towards Holne and New Bridge. The route back was entirely along the river Dart. No path marked on the map, and some scrambling was involved, but magnificent views of a bubbling river with plenty of white water, and falls. At one point we thought we might have to attempt a rescue when we were surprised to hear a voice come from the middle of the river, but it turned out to be a wild swimmer bumping his way downstream in a wetsuit. Our progress was slower than we had thought and we emerged at Dartmeet just as it was getting really dark.
